History[]
Myriamie is the only child of a prominent Ta’Nalfein merchant family. Her father, Mellenor Avellene, is a purveyor of fine fabrics, spices, and coffee.
As a small child, Myriamie often snuck away from her tutors to play in a quiet, sunlit corner of her father’s warehouse. She stole small bits of fabric from the bolts lining the walls and played at dressing up her dolls. Desiring to stay hidden and not be dragged back to dusty old books with their endless histories of important Nalfein families and lineage, she learned to hide in the shadows when her nurse came looking for her, and to sneak quietly in and out of the warehouse.
Mellenor, of course, knew his daughter was hiding in the warehouse and indulged her by pretending to be unaware. He left little bags of sweets hidden in spots he knew she would visit. Finding these treats and believing them to be illicit delighted Myria.
It was in the warehouse that Myriamie first met Taeghan, when they were both no more than 5 years old. Taeghan’s father supplied Mellenor with bales of wool, and Taeghan would often ride along with the wagons his father transported from Ta’Vaalor. The two became fast friends and spent afternoons playing at swords or hiding amidst the barrels of spices while their fathers conducted business. As the years went by, their friendship deepened into love.
Her father was content to let this be, since they were young and would likely grow out of their infatuation. But as Myria grew, her mother made it clear that an arranged marriage was in Myria’s future, preferably to a noble family of ancient lineage. Beginning to feel stifled by Nalfein society and by her mother’s plans, she ran away from home while still very young.
Not knowing where else to turn, her steps took her to Ta’Vaalor, to Taeghan, where she’s lived since. So far, Cymerielle has left her daughter alone, mostly, saved for the botched attempt at a forced marriage to Raevel. The skills that Myriamie has been learning, she thinks, may come in useful to the family later on. And after all, Myriamie is still barely out of childhood. Time enough to bring her back to the family later on.
Personal Crest[]
The crest's arch and vale are both gold, surrounding a shiny circle of bright jade green with its internal flourishes of woven flax blossoms. A black rose, thornless and innocent, sits over a single stylized black thorn, its tip sharp and wickedly curved. Between the floral symbols is a tiny line of silver characters. Flanking left, in the matriarch's position, is a golden hawk's lure, while right, in the patriarch's position, are a triad of blue coins.
Family motto: That is valuable which is useful.
