A Guide to Spellburst[]
Little is known to what exactly goes into the spellburst formula to keep you safe in some of the higher level hunting, but players have come up with something that works. This short guide is intended to help players be more aware of what they can and cannot wear in Maaghara, Wyneb, OTF and Nelemar. While the Rift also has spellburst, it works a little differently and doesn't actually burst off you, but more-or-less you can't wear what you can't know!
The Rough Formula[]
(Arcane Symbols + Magical Item Use + Harness Power + Lores) / 3 = (roughly) Outside mana one can wear.
What is Outside Mana?[]
Outside mana is a term used to describe the amount of mana you can wear to stay under spell burst. A level 1 spell is 1 outside mana. This increases as the level of spell increases. An example is 503 = 3 mana to a rogue.
Spells that cannot be learned by the character at all are worth full value. Spells that can be learned by a character, but they haven't trained in spell reaseach for that given spell count as half outside mana. Here is an example:
A warrior with no spell research training can wear all MnS and MnE at half the outside mana. Meaning spell 414 would only be considered 7 mana, instead of 14 because a warrior has the option to learning that spell. But anything outside MnS and MnE would count as full outside mana.
One exception to this rule is that some spells count for more outside mana than there level. While no one knows for sure, people believe spells like 911, 618 and other various spells count for more than their given level.
Cans and Cannots[]
- All self cast spells (spells known to the user) do not count against spellburst.
- Spells that you could learn, but haven't, count as HALF their mana value. Always round up!
- While not proven, it feels that their are diminishing returns as you gain more skill.
- Some spells seem more heavily weighted, these including: 911, 215, 618 and possibly 1119.
- Spell knowledge enhancives act as if the spell is known and will not count against you.
- Most group spell songs do not count against you.
- Symbols, signs and sigils do not count against you.
- Small statues, orbs, cubes and black crystals (as well as spell 511) do not count against you.
- The arcane spell list also does not count against you.
- Blue and white crystals do count against you.
